There is a moment, usually in mid-October, when Nan changes. The rains ease, the mornings turn crisp and mist settles low over the rice fields of Bo Kluea. It is the season we wait for all year, and this year we would love to share it with you.
To celebrate the season, we created the Winter Escape. Stay with us between 16 October and 20 December 2026 and enjoy 15% off your second or third night, along with the cool mornings, campfire evenings and quiet valley days that make this time of year so special. It begins the moment you arrive.
The arrival journey is part of the Nan experience. An 80-minute flight takes you from Bangkok to Nan, and from there the road climbs for two hours through forested ridges and villages shaped by Lanna and Tai Lue culture. By the time you reach our valley, the city already feels far away.
Your tent is waiting beside the stream: one of only eight air-conditioned tented suites, each with an ensuite bathroom, plush bedding and a private deck facing the mountains or the creek. The minibar is on us, so pour something cold, settle onto the deck and watch the light soften over the hills. Before long, the scent of woodsmoke will tell you where everyone is heading.
That woodsmoke comes from the Ambalama, the heart of our camp, inspired by the Sri Lankan tradition of resting places for travellers. In the cool season, it is where every evening ends up.
The fire is lit as the sun drops behind the ridge. Guests pull their chairs closer and the stories begin: the temple murals someone saw in Nan town, the viewpoint another family stopped at on the drive up, a favourite dish from lunch along the way. Tips are swapped, plans for tomorrow take shape, and people who arrived as strangers soon feel like fellow travellers. Above the valley, the sky fills with more stars than most of us have seen in years.
On movie nights, the Ambalama becomes an open-air cinema. A screen glows among the trees, the fire crackles softly beside you and the film plays against a backdrop of forest and stars. Wrapped up against the cool mountain air, with a drink in hand and the sound of the creek in the background, it feels less like watching a movie and more like being part of one. When the credits roll and the fire burns low, the cool air sends you back to your tent and into the kind of deep sleep only mountain nights bring.
You wake to the sound of the creek and a valley wrapped in mist. Breakfast is served at MonManee, our creek-side restaurant, every morning of your stay. Northern Thai dishes sit alongside Western favourites, many made with herbs and vegetables from our own garden, the same garden you can wander through later today.
Take your coffee to the terrace and watch the mist lift from the hills. With the sun up and the air still crisp, the valley is ready to be explored.
The Winter Escape includes our camp activities, so the day is yours to shape. Some guests take a bicycle along quiet roads between the rice fields. Others head to the herb garden to harvest vegetables and herbs, then find them on their plate that evening. Many join the Community Walk through the neighbouring village, meeting the families who make this valley what it is.
Wherever the day takes you, it passes through Bo Kluea, a district named after its salt. For centuries, villagers here have drawn salt by hand from mountain wells, and a little of it is waiting for you back at camp.
Book the Winter Escape today and we will welcome you with a complimentary traditional Nan salt foot soak. After a morning on the bike or an afternoon in the village, there is no better way to rest tired feet than with the same mountain salt that gives Bo Kluea its name.
Then, as the light fades, woodsmoke rises from the Ambalama again and the evening begins once more. With 15% off your second or third night, it is easy to let one more day unfold.
The cool season in Nan is short, and with only eight tents, our evenings by the fire fill quickly. Read our guide to getting to Nan and Visama Explorer Nan to plan your journey, then book early to secure your Winter Escape.
Breathe the mountain air. Gather by the fire. Count the stars. We look forward to welcoming you to Nan.
